Four steps to getting yourself an indie hit!

Step 1: Get your release on the ARIA chart database
To get your release on the The Jagermeister AIR charts you must be in the ARIA database, listed as either a Single / EP or an Album. Any Australian release being sold in stores is eligible for inclusion in the ARIA database. This should be standard operation procedure for your label anyway.
To make sure that ARIA (and therefore AIR) can track your releases; you need to do one of the following:
Ask your distributor to make sure the title information has been supplied to ARIA or if you are releasing the title independently, you need to supply the following information to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need to be JavaScript enabled to view it :

* Title and Artist name
* Format - Single (up to 5 different tracks), Album (6 tracks or more).
* Medium – (eg CD, Vinyl etc)
* Release Date
* Music Genre
* Country of Origin (of the Artist on the release)
* Catalogue number – Try to make your catalogue number a unique identifier. Alpha numerical is recommended. For example, Red Robin Records might use the following catalogue system: REDR200901, for their 1st release of 2009.  Providing a catalogue number ensures that the information that is printed on your physical product (and listed in store computers) at retail, matches with the ARIA database.
* Barcode Number – The easiest way for ARIA to track down your releases is by barcode, because barcode numbers provide a unique identifier for a release. If you are an AIR member, please talk to us about arranging barcodes for your releases. Having a barcode is also beneficial as some retailers (particularly some of the big department stores) will not stock your product without a barcode.
Note that if your release is also distributed digitally (it should be!) then you/or your distributor must specifically ask ARIA digital sales as well.

The AIR charts are a sales based chart for independent labels and musicians.
Each week we receive raw sales data from ARIA, we then extract the independent artists and voila! Independent Chart complete.

AIR produces a weekly set of charts for albums and singles as well as charts that differentiate between types of distributor. For more info on this differentiation visit the About the AIR Charts page.

A number of monthly charts are also compiled for specific niche genres. These Charts provide details of the Top 10 selling albums released by Australian independent artists with independent distribution. Monthly charts appear the first week of month proceeding sales period.

All charts archived for historical reference, you can access them on this website.

D-Star Spins
We're really proud of our radio charts. These are the only independent radio play charts in the world! And thanks to D*Star they are powered by the most accurate reporting system available. To cut a long story short, The D-Star Spins system fingerprints your song by digitally reading it's wave pattern. When that wave pattern flies through the air via radio station broadcasts it will be recognised by the D-Star system and logged. It's far more accurate than playlist reporting or a randomised census. That said, for the system to recognise your song, you have to submit it to D-Star for fingerprinting. It won't cost you anything and it doesn't take much time. Go to https://www.dstarspins.com/submit-my-song.aspx to submit your song, you can even check if D-Star are already monitoring your song here. They have an FAQ page too if you want to know more.

HOW DO I GET ON THE D-STAR RADIO CHARTS?

D-Star Spins is a business-to-business service giving users the ability to track the rotations of music tracks played on radio and TV stations all over Australia. It is also an easy-to-use online tool for the tracking and analysis of when and where music tracks are played.

Content owners can get fast and accurate tracking of where their music is played on all major commercial radio stations in every capital city and important regional hubs such as the Gold Coast. Additionally they can see the rotations of songs at community radio and Triple J nationally. With data updated hourly, the system allows you to see track exactly when your songs get played. Full track airplay reports are available from D-Star Spins.
