About 4 years ago a compilation album was released featuring female-led versions of the songs of Neil and Tim Finn.
'She Will Have Her Way' featured covers by established artists like Sarah Blasko, Little Birdy, Renee Geyer and Missy Higgins as well as a haunting, sparse and multitracked vocal a-capella version of Four Seasons In One Day by an artist I hadn't heard of called New Buffolo. It was without doubt, the standout trackon a standout album.
New Buffalo (aka Sally Seltmann) released 2 full length albums of her own idiosyncratic and pretty songs, with some degree of commercial success and widespread critical acclaim. When not writing and touring as New Buffalo, Sally was lending her considerable songwriting talents to artists the world wide, including a worldwide hit with the song 1,2,3,4 which was performed by Feist and went on to win a bunch of awards.
Anyway, Sally has just completed her first full album under her own name. This, the first single is beautiful, sunny and has just a touch of melancholy. Unmistakeably the same voice that made New Buffalo such a brilliant artist. I reckon there's a good chance that this album will be extraordinary.
